The Eco Way At Pori Eco

Embrace The Eco Way of living with Pori. Our homes minimize environmental impact through efficient energy use, waste reduction, and the integration of natural, local resources.

The Problem

The Need For Sustainable Living

This trend is being driven by a number of factors, including increasing awareness of the environmental impact of consumerism, the desire to support companies that are doing good for the planet, and the availability of more sustainable products on the market.

The Solution

Eco-Friendly Living in Harmony with Nature

At Pori Eco Living, our Superadobe homes blend seamlessly with Zanzibar’s untouched fruit forest, using sustainable materials that preserve the environment. Designed for energy efficiency and minimal impact, these eco-friendly homes offer modern comfort while living in harmony with nature.

Each home is carefully positioned to maximize natural shade, airflow, and privacy, allowing residents to stay cool without relying on air conditioning. The thick, earth-packed walls naturally regulate indoor temperatures, while solar energy and rainwater harvesting systems support a fully off-grid lifestyle. With fruit trees just steps from your door and nature all around, Pori Eco Living offers a unique opportunity to experience modern living that’s deeply rooted in sustainability and the natural world.

What Is Superadobe

Superadobe is a revolutionary eco-friendly construction technique developed by architect Nader Khalili.

It involves filling long sandbags with stabilized earth ( a mix of soil, water, and lime or cement) and laying them in circular layers to form durable, natural structures.

These homes are designed to work in harmony with nature, offering environmental benefits, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

Living In Harmony

Living in harmony means aligning your lifestyle with the rhythms of nature, embracing simplicity, and minimizing your impact on the environment. At Pori Eco Living, this philosophy guides everything — from the way we build our homes to how we grow our food and connect with the land.

Living in harmony is not about giving things up, but about gaining peace, purpose, and balance. It’s waking up to birdsong, walking barefoot through fruit trees, and knowing your choices support the planet. In this natural setting, you’re not just surviving — you’re thriving, consciously and sustainably, as part of a greater whole.

The Build Process

A Proven, Efficient Build: While the technique is novel, the process is streamlined by our experienced team, which built Africa’s first Superadobe structure in 2010. We combine the proven efficiency of modern project management with the precision of civil engineering to deliver your custom home on a reliable timeline.

  • Aesthetic and Interior Flexibility: The unique curved walls create naturally beautiful spaces, but the interior design is fully modern and flexible. We collaborate with local interior designers, like Lilly Mabiba, to source local, high-quality materials for stunning finishes, custom woodwork, and built-in features that reflect the authentic style of Zanzibar while meeting contemporary luxury standards.

  • Integration with the Landscape: Every home is sited by our architects to maximize natural light, prevailing winds, and the surrounding fruit forest canopy. This careful placement ensures maximum privacy, ideal temperatures, and immediate access to the fruit trees and spice gardens that define the Pori living experience.

Benefits Of An Eco Home

kilwa3 1 1

Financial & Operational Savings: The single biggest financial benefit of an eco-home is often overlooked.

Near-Zero Utility Bills: Thanks to passive cooling (the thick earth walls) and 100% solar energy systems, owners achieve genuine energy independence. This eliminates monthly electricity costs, offering long-term financial stability compared to homes reliant on expensive grid power and air conditioning.

Low Maintenance: Built from resilient earth, these structures are inherently durable, fire-resistant, and termite-proof, drastically reducing the maintenance and repair costs associated with standard wooden or cement construction in tropical climates.

The Power of Passive Cooling: The thermal mass of the Superadobe walls stabilizes the indoor temperature. This means your home stays naturally cool, eliminating the need for noisy, power-hungry AC units and guaranteeing a comfortable, quiet, and healthy living environment year-round.

Built for Resilience: Superadobe structures are famous for their strength. The earthbag domes are earthquake-resistant and built to withstand high winds, offering superior safety and longevity that preserves your investment for generations.
